What Does The Bible Say?

Are You Bowing Down to the god of This World?

Those who stand for God and Godliness are standing taller and shining brighter than ever before. (Phil. 2:15) One of the temptations of Satan to Christ was to "fall down and worship me." (Matthew 4:9) You can be sure that if he tried to tempt Jesus to worship him, he will tempt people who are more vulnerable to do so.

Three men in the Bible stand out as enemies of God and His people:

  1. Goliath (1 Sam. 17:4-7). He was 6 cubits high, had 6 pieces of armour, and his spear’s head weighed 600 shecklels of iron. His number was 666.
  2. Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 3:1) His image was 60 cubits high, was 6 cubits broad, and was to be worshipped when music was played on 6 instruments. His number was 666.
  3. Antichrist (Rev. 13:6-8, 15-18) Whole number is 666.

All three defy the people of God and demand obedience as gods. Satan has always had human instruments of defiance against God and His people.

Goliath ruled in the pride of his flesh. Nebuchadnezzar ruled in the pride of his world., and the Antichrist will rule in the pride of his Satanic (devil) powers.

Of course, if you know your Bible, you know the first two were defeated and the third is yet to be defeated.

The pressure is on Christians today like never before in my lifetime to bow down to the god of this world. Satan operates in the realm of the world, the flesh, and of course the devil. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us Satan is "seeking whom he may devour" and verse 9 tells us to "resist steadfast in the faith..."

Read 1 Timothy 5:1-15 and take particular notice of verse 15 which states, "For some are already turned aside after Satan." When a person follows their fleshly desires and falls into sin, or follows their worldly desires and falls into sin, or follows their Satan-inspired goals and falls into sin, they have bowed to the god of this world. Please read Ephesians 2:1-13 and notice verse 2 especially: "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:" Please look at 1 Cor. 10:16-33 and notice especially verses 20-22. Do you realize there is a connection between the seen world (cup) and the unseen world (devils, demons)? The truth is this: We cannot have communion (fellowship with God) while at the same time having fellowship with devils (demons) through our involvement with his instruments of entrance into our lives. Consider three of his most popular instruments: Drugs, pornography, and music. When a person takes alcohol or mind altering drugs, the result is bowing to the god of this world. When a person exposes his passions to visual experience (pornography) the result is bowing to the god of this world. When a person exposes his or her mind to music which promotes rebellion, immorality, anarchy, atheism, lust and lawlessness, the result is bowing to the god of this world. See 2 Timothy 2:24-26, especially verse 26, "And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will."

There is an unseen war going on between the God of the Universe and the god of this world. The battlefield is the heart of man. Satan has at his disposal the world, the flesh, and of course, his own cunning devices of which we are not ignorant. 2 Cor. 2:11, "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us..."

If Satan has the advantage of you, start by breaking away from the things he uses to get the advantage. Recover yourself by depriving him of the tools he uses to make you bow.
