What Does The Bible Say?

How to Get Better When You Could Get Bitter

It is a common thing in these last days for Christians out of God's will to become bitter and blame their bitterness and backslidden condition others.
Let us face some truths upfront at the beginning. Nothing and no one can make a child of God bitter if that person has committed his or her soul To God as  unto a faithful Creator. 1Peter 4:19; 2 Cor. 10:12-13 A bitter Christian must have given into the temptation to become bitter.
Secondly, all bitterness in born-again Christians the result of a failure to deal with the old nature in man.

Here are some of the excuses that I have been given for bitterness:
"I got my feelings hurt." Notice the word "feelings." Look at Heb. 12:1-4, and specially v.3 "For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself."
Contradiction means dispute.  Strife is a part of life, but  if  strife takes root it bears fruit and the fruit is bitterness.
Here is a revelation, If we live for Jesus and take a stand for a right, someone,  somewhere, sometime will blame us for their backslidden bitter condition. Heb. 12:11-15. Here is the setting v. 1-3  instructs us to lay aside, run with patience,  looking onto Jesus, for consider Him.  V.4-15 Deals with how God  deals with us when we do not accomplish verse 1-3 in our lives.
So when God begins to deal with us in chastisement, if we respond incorrectly, vs.11-14 the outcome is, v.15 a root of bitterness.
I know some folks that I love, I have pastored, and I have seen living a happy, blessed, fulfilled, joyful, fruitful life... Yet today they are filled  with bitterness, blame, bad attitude and are out of the will of God.

How can we get better when we could get bitter?

1.  Make our own personal walk with the Lord Jesus our own responsibility.  Rom. 14:12; 2 Cor. 5:10

2. Overcome bitterness by giving the issue to God.  Rom.12:17-21;  Eph. 4:30-32  Notice v. 31 the first in the list is bitterness which we must put away!  Where do we put it?  Give it to God!

If another person can make you bitter, it is because you have given them control of your spirit.

3. Realize bitterness is the outcome of a battle between God and satan in our lives where we give satan the victory.

If we really want God to get the glory in our lives, we will win over bitterness and get better for His glory.
Realize we are winning for The Lord.
